Mahomes | Do We Have Time to Run Wasp? (12" x 12")

$590.00

It was the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LIV, and the Chiefs were running out of time. Down 20-10 to the San Francisco 49ers, the game clock showed only 8 minutes and 53 seconds remaining. With a timeout on the field, an official review nullified what would have been a first down. The Chiefs were facing a third down with 15 yards needed to extend the drive.

During the timeout, Chiefs quarterback asked offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy, "Do we have time to run Wasp?" Bienemy responded, "What down and distance do you like it?" Mahomes responded, "I’ll run it at any down and distance, I don’t care."

The play was 2-3 Jet Chip Wasp. In the play, the Chiefs line up three receivers (Sammy Watkins, Travis Kelce, and Tyreek Hill) on one side of the line. Watkins is lined up on the outside and runs a deep square-in route. On the inside, Kelce runs a stutter-cross, and in the middle, Hill runs a 'wasp' route, in which he begins to run a deep crossing route, leading defenders towards the middle of the field before cutting sharply towards the sideline.

The play worked, and Hill was able to get behind the San Francisco defense. Mahomes launched a ball that traveled 57 yards in the air, and Hill hauled it in at the 20 yard line. The Chiefs went on to score on that drive, with “Wasp” propelling them to a 31-20 win and their first NFL championship in 50 years, and Patrick Mahomes was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.

This is an original oil painting on canvas. It measures 12” tall by 12” wide. It sells in a dark gray metal frame and is ready to hang. Free shipping in the U.S.
