Gordon | In the Clutch (12" x 12")

$590.00

Alex Gordon, left fielder for the Kansas City Royals, launches a home run in the clutch in Game 1 of the 2015 World Series.

Facing the New York Mets, the Royals were trailing 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 1, when Gordon connected on a pitch from Mets reliever Jeurys Familia, with his blast tying the game. The Royals would go on to win in extra innings. Gordo’s clutch shot helped propel the Royals to a four-games-to-one win for the World Series Championship, the club’s first since 1985.

Gordon is one of the few players in recent history to wear only one uniform in his entire major-league career. Drafted out of Nebraska as the second overall pick in the 2005 MLB draft, he played for the Royals from 2007 to 2020. A spectacular defensive standout, Gordon earned eight Gold Glove awards in his career, and was named to the American All-Star team three times.

This original oil painting is one in a series of portraits of some of Kansas City’s favorite contemporary sports figures completed in a 12” x 12” format. This piece was done in alla prima (wet-on-wet, in one session) using a limited palette of Payne’s grey, transparent red oxide, ivory black, torrit grey, cadmium yellow light, and titanium white.
